I am an experienced registered BACP and ACTO counsellor and psychotherapist working in private practice and at a large charity in Edinburgh. I help people with a wide range of difficulties, from diagnosed mental health conditions, to feelings of depression and anxiety, bereavement, gender and sexuality issues and difficult relationship and workplace problems.
I understand every client to be unique in their personality and needs, and that while one therapeutic approach may be very helpful for a particular client, for another it might not be. I am trained in Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy enabling me to work in a way that is best suited to each client; for example, providing plenty of space for you to tell your story, placing a greater or lesser emphasis on your childhood, using more or less structured thinking, or perhaps setting gentle but effective goals.
I work in a warm, supportive and open way, ensuring your voice and needs are heard and respected. In this way I support you to understand yourself; your needs, conflicts, anxieties, defences, and relational patterns on a much deeper level, enabling you to explore alternative ways of being and relating, to help bring you greater satisfaction and stability to your life.
I am an Italian counsellor, f2f and online, working either in Italian and English. I also run a b&b which mainly is for colleagues, practitioners who need a good and safe break for coming back energised and motivated. As a counsellor and a supervisor, my way of working is based on the relationship that we two usually build, but also in groups. A safe and good relationship is the cornerstone for creating a positive and secure space where you can find your own solution to the matter you're living. As well as a positive and secure space in supervision, both f2f and online is where we, supervisor and supervisee/s, can experience a good enough space for growing up in our practice.
Now, after some experience with young people, my aim to undertake more professional training about LGBQ matters and adolescents/teens.
I am a Dutch national. Fluent in both English and Dutch. I have been an online therapist since 2010 and a year later I started tutoring others in working online. Right now I am also a director of ACTO. Next to that I have personal experience of pain issues and having to change your life around. I won't share much of my own experience but I understand how deeply it can affect your life.
My practise focusses on supporting people who work or live in remote or conflict affected locations; humanitarians, aid workers and international professional staff and their families.
I have more than 20years experience of working in the developing world and have personal insight and understanding of the challenges and stresses of this way of life.
I work from a humanistic/existential perspective providing a safe therapeutic space for my clients to explore their concerns, challenges and choices at their own pace.
